Using DeepL.com, an Online Translation Website

Recently someone recommended a new online translation website called DeepL.com which uses artificial intelligence to translate text from most languages to most others and does it much more idiomatically than Google Translation does. The text is still not perfect so you need to check it for odd translations, but the translations I have seen from Japanese to English and German and from English to Japanese and German have been amazingly good.

Students might ask if the software does such a good job of translating, why they might need to actually learn a foreign language. That's a good point! You definitely are not going to be able to learn every language that you might come across on the Internet. However, if you are going to write something in another language that you want to be right, you will need to be able to assess how good it is or find someone with the skills to help you. Very often I have seen text in official notices, at hotels, or even on government websites that has obviously been translated using translation software.
